Recycled Paper: Use it or Lose it

by Helen on December 7, 2006

An Invitesite customer wrote us the other day about a three-fold invitation design with a tear-off rsvp postcard. My first response was Ugh! how ugly. It would look like an invitation to a tag sale. (paper-snob that I am…) No stature. No specialness. But the customer brings up an interesting issue. She wants to do the right thing and use less paper.

If you are using 100% postconsumer paper, and treefree paper, does the same criteria apply? Many mills that manufacture 100% postconsumer pulp are in trouble. Not enough consumers use their paper. A few are in bankrupcy court. Same goes for treefree papers. Most of the companies that develop treefree papers are very small and always on the verge of going out of business.

Conclusion: It’s okay to use a little more paper if you are using treefree and postconsumer recycled. It’s actually better to go for a lush effect. Then, more people are inspired to use these papers. More trees are saved. Beauty and Responsibility. Win Win.
